The New Project - 1987 Golf Gti - "The Silver Surfer"

So my girlfriends dad has this golf, a 1987 mk2 golf Gti 1.8 8v, it's been a workhorse for the family over the years, i knew they'd had it a long time, but not exactly how long, it's a cool car though, wanted for nothing, but her dad wants rid, so he asks her

"Would Chris want to buy the golf? I'd rather it go to a good home than be scrapped in all honesty, i'd only want a couple of hundred pounds for it"

I was moved by this, as secretly he loves the golf, but needs something bigger, I gain permission from both my mum (shocked) and my girlfriend (who has now dealt with how obsessed i am with cars) and make him an offer of £175 and BOOM the deal is done.

What i didnt quite realise, is what a little treasure i've managed to get at a bargain price:
Full Service History all the way from 1988
Low mileage (only 116k in 25 years)
1 owner from new

So my birthday comes round and he delivers the car, here are the pics

There will be mods, and upgrades, and a bit of restoration, the plan is to have a "cool" car that I can go to shows in

What this space......

Ultimate Dubs 2012

Yes I know it's nearly may, but it's been a manic few weeks since Ultimate Dubs 2012.

I hadn't been to a show for over 2.5 years, occasionally the odd no-rice, but that doesn't exist any more, so I thought I'd try and get back into the VW scene, after a break.

Ultimate Dubs provided the oppurtunity for this, a quick chat on facebook chat with a good friend i'd not seen in over 6 months resulted in a hotel room booked for the weekend of ultimate dubs, and from then on it was going to happen.

Friday March 9th, I finished work, popped home, got my things and headed down towards Studio In Car down south near Waterlooville, Hampshire. This was going to be the hotel for the night, and the group of guys I was going to the show with were staying here, for an early start saturday,

One of the cars had a leaking front wheel, it took 40 minutes of constant peer pressure, but in the end a trip to halfords proved king, and tyre seal was bought. Sleep was then needed after all of the palarva of the night before....

Saturday - A horrendously early wake up (for me anyway) at 7.30, impending the departure of 3 of the UK's finest Mk2 Golfs for the journey up to Telford:

We stopped at some services on the A34 to meet up with a couple of golfs, and the Worlds one and only mk3 Golf Caddy, which 2 weeks previous, had been a fully bog standard Mk3 Golf Variant. Roy, the owner, had done some mad hours and work to get it ready for UD, and the final product was nothing short of spectacular....

So we arrived in telford saturday afternoon, washed the cars, and stuck them inside the show hall, it was then decided we'd all earnt a beer (or few)....
