M.I.V.W - Men In Volkswagen, Leiden, Holland, July 2009
Year after year this show improves, and with 2009 being the show's 5th birthday there were big things planned, a new venue after the previous venue was demolished, things were kept a closely guarded secret until everything was secured. At one point it was not certain if the show would take place with the event's main organiser Cor Van Leeuwen experiencing what can only be described as hell with a back injury leaving him unable to walk at first....
This man has the spirit the VW community should be proud of, because with all of the challenges that lay in front of him, he overcame them, and managed to organise another top event, the best of the show season for some....
This show draws crowds from all over europe, and an increasing percentage of this crowd is from here in the UK, some even travelling from Ireland, which is a task in itself....
The majority of the UK crowd take 1 of 3 options:
Dover to Dunkirk - 2.5 hours on the ferry, then 4-5 hours drive from Dunkirk to Leiden
Hull to Rotterdam - 8-9 hours on the ferry then 1-2 hours drive from Rotterdam to Leiden
Folkstone to Calais - 45 mins on the Channel Tunnel and 4.5-5 hours drive from Calais to Leiden
These 2 options divide the country, with the "northerners" going to hull, and the "southerners" going to dover / folkstone....

My trip starts down in Frimley, Surrey, I'd chosen the Dover - Dunkirk route, as I preferred the driving as that was what were all going for was it not? I met a local VW guy at 6.30am and we continued to the first "convoy stop" at Clacketts Lane services on the M25 at the Surrey / Kent border.....
the weapon of choice - Supercharged Seat Ibiza

By the time we arrived at Clacketts lane, it was shaping up to be a lovely day, perfect for driving the long distance to our destination in Leiden
